Whether you want to make and gift this for the special someone in your life, or you'd prefer a project to work on together, this toolbox kit is an achievable, useful and beautiful woodworking project.
We have dived into our prized stash of Sugi (Japanese Cedar) and milled and cut to length all the appropriate sections required to make a Japanese-style toolbox.
With the leg work already done, it falls to the final recipient to mark out the locations of the holes for the wooden nails, drill those holes, and glue and assemble the toolbox.
Included in the kit are all the wooden nails you will need to build the box, along with their matching drill bit, and a 42mm Wooden Mallet to drive them home.
Once the nails are glued in place, the included flush cut saw also allows you to trim them off for the perfect finish.
The result is a beautiful Japanese toolbox measuring 490x165x120mm. Full drawings and instructions will be included.
As we only have a modest amount of milled stock, availability is strictly limited.

View allKintsugi (golden joinery) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold or silver. This ancient artform is based on the philosophy of embracing the flawed or imperfect. Highlighting the cracks and repairs as simply an event in the life of an object rather than allowing its service to end at the time of its damage or breakage.
This May, JTA are lucky enough to host Ai Shimizu, a Kyoto-based Kintsugi practitioner who is already a part of the JTA family. She has painstakingly developed the Kintsugi SEED kit which has now been enjoyed by our customers for over a year.
Ai-san has exhibited her work in Japan and internationally, as well as teaching throughout Japan and France.
The four class options over the weekend of workshops, delve into the Kintsugi fundamentals - repairing cracks (ware) or the broken vessel (kake). Select one session or receive a 10% discount for two sessions.
All workshops will be held at our Kogarah (Sydney) showroom with all materials included as well as light refreshments.
